Fitness instructors and personal trainers actively help gym members and clients reach their health and fitness goals by setting targets, training and motivating them.
As a Fitness Instructor you would lead and organise group and individual exercise programmes to help people to improve their health and fitness and you would either instruct a range of activities or specialise in a particular area.
Fitness Instructors can also do personal training. This involves working one-on-one with clients either in a gym or in the client’s home to help clients assess their current level of physical fitness, and to set and reach future fitness goals and also advising clients on how to modify their lifestyle outside of the gym to improve their fitness.
What you need?
To qualify as a fitness instructor, you could either complete the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing before starting work, or start as an assistant instructor and complete work-based qualifications.
What it can lead to?
With experience and higher qualifications, you may be able to progress to senior instructor, then to management. Other options could be to move into personal training or coaching a sport. You could also start your own fitness club.
